U-534 - The case of Hitler's secret weapon

On 5 May 1945, shortly before Germany's capitulation, the lastsubmarine of the U-boat fleet sailed off northwards from the Copenhagen port. Several hours after departure, U-534 led by Kapitänleutnant (Captain Lieutenant) Herbert Nollau came across a British air patrol specialized in fighting submarines. After Germany's defeat many ships headed to Norway where, the British feared, the Germans would regroup and continue to fight. That is why in early May 1945 they began a large-scale campaign against submarines. This confirms why the crew did not want to give up. Captain Nollau refused to surrender and decided to defend the boat and its cargo. 

The crew did not give up despite the calls. Liberators made three approaches. The first one was shot down by boat's anti-aircraft gun. Only the third approach of another plane from the squadron and depth bombs proved fatal for the ship. The U-boat began to sink but 47 of 51 crew members survived. Three sailors died in the water and the rest of the crew, along with the command, were interned. 

U-534's history overgrew with legends over the years. There have been speculations concerning its cargo and mission. Much was said about the alleged stocks of gold on board. The ship had been considered lost until 1986, when it was found. Nine years later, in 1993 it was lifted to the surface. The wreck remained in surprisingly good condition. Contrary to expectations, apart from personal belongings of crew members, nearly one hundred bottles of wine and a box of condoms, no gold was found. But it turned out that the cargo hold contained something really interesting. 

The reason for the fierce resistance proved to be another treasure of the Third Reich - a load of T11 experimental torpedoes; only 38 of these were ever produced. Their most important feature was insensitivity to Foxer acoustic decoys. They were devices towed behind Allied ships. Old type torpedoes would get a fix on the decoys instead of the ship, which would often save the U-boat's target. 

Risking one's own life and the lives of the crew members, especially 5 May 1945, gives rise to two hypotheses. The first is the question whether Kapitänleutnant Herbert Nollau was so ardent a Nazi that he did not accept the possibility of surrender. Rather, it must be assumed that he was a reasonable man, after all, not everyone becomes a Captain of the Kriegsmarine. The load of T11 torpedoes and the desperate attempt to defend it do not characterize a man who knows he lost the war. They rather show that he was convinced that the end of the war had not yet come and the weapons he carried would still be needed. 

The second hypothesis is the desire to sell the torpedoes and setting up in Argentina for the rest of his life. If so, however, would he risk the lives of the whole crew? There are many doubts as to what motivated the Captain to fight. Perhaps it was a sense of duty; he was given orders that had to be carried out although the war was lost. Perhaps, however, the destination was not Argentina, but a secret German base in Antarctica? The possibility of leading a life in the land of Shangri-la and the participation in developing the race of supermen was very tempting for ideological Nazis. For Captain Herbert Nollau the moment when his ship was destroyed was a huge failure that tormented him until his suicide in 1968. It is possible that throughout the whole period from the end of the war he was harassed with secret services wanting to discover the real aim of his expedition. Or maybe he knew that he had forever lost his place in the Great New World? 

However, fate made history take a different course. Now, the restored U-543 can be seen in the Woodside Ferry Terminal in Birkenhead, near Liverpool, for 5 ₤ from Monday to Sunday.

Postcard from Argentina

The title may sound like sent from holidays but it is much more interesting to write from the southern hemisphere, where I am now, studying one interesting plot, which has been haunting me for years. There are holidays anyway, so this entry will be a bit different. However, it concerns matters that I have mentioned on my blog seweral times. This topic which is bothering me for a while is what hapenned with Adolf Hitler and his personal guard after leaving Europe. I have already written why I do not believe in Hitler’s death at the Reich Chancellery. I have also put a thesis that Antarctica was a real place of the III Reich’s leader death (more information about this soon). Argentina was still a country that played (maybe plays?) a crucial role.

Contrary to what can it seems to be on these pictures, this is not a village hidden among the Alpine peaks, but San Carlos de Bariloche which is located in the Rio Negro province in Argentina. According to the Argentinian journalist, Abel Basti, it was actually a place where Adolf Hitler stayed with Ewa Braun. They were supposed to be taken to the Argentinian businessman’s estate - Jorge Antonio, one of the trusted partners of a three times president of Argentina, Juan Domingo Perón. The estate was isolated from the outside world. The only way to get there was by boat or by plane.

In his book, a guide, which Basti published few years ago, he presented a number of places, where SS-men were supposed to live and work. These were often high-ranking people in the Nazi hierarchy, such as Josef Mengele or Adolf Eichmann who was later captured by Mossad. They were sought after in Europe and Israel. They were guilty of war crimes they committed. However, in Argentina, they worked normally without hiding their identity for local companies that in majority were created thanks to the gold brought from Europe.

Nazis in Argentina, which stayed out of the war theatre, were not treated like criminals. Even more, many of them, educated and rich, were valuable citizens for this South American country. Did such citizens have influence on the Argentinian government? It is very probable. After all, people who governed this country knew that the nazis’ escape there. In such town like Bariloche, a lot of Germans could surely feel like they were at home, and live calmly till the end of their life without fear that somebody would bother them. I hope that I will manage to encounter another trace in America.

Hitler died in Antarctica

Day without the news about UFO seems to be the day totally lost. I don't know myself if I should prepare for a big sensation – the reveal of the UFO mystery or not. Even Vatican had accepted with the idea, that we are not life-friendly planet on space. 

One time Russia, other time England, and another time the United States are the places were we can hear about the visits of the guests from different planet. Very trustful about the UFO news, Polish portal Infra.pl had recently informed, that a new UFO commission started its work in Argentina. This financed by Argentinian government institution consists of the specialists and scientists of various disciplines, and it first aim is to track and verify the news about the unidentified flying objects. What is most important, Argentinian ufologist, Mercedes Casas claims, that „the aim of the commission is to examine all the cases in a rational way”. The commission contains both, civilian and military experts, and their most important aim is...what? Well – national security. What is the reason, that the UFO which can be noticed all over the world had suddenly become the threat for the national security of Argentina that its government had decided to create such commission? Did happen something we don't know?

Argentina is very often discussed in many conspiracy theories. It belongs to the group of countries with the highest rate of the UFO acitvity in the world. Does the special meaning for this activity has close distance to Antarctica continent? If we consider thehypothesis about the existence of the mysterious base in Neue Schwabenland, many elements would fit one another. This base which is said to be established on part of Antatctic continent which is not covered by ice, was a matter of interest of US authorities, that is why they have sent there special military expedition codeword „High Jump”. In the area around Argentina many years after the end of World War II there were many news about the German sumbmarine activity. What is more, is it was a destination country for many important politicians of the Third Reich. Cattle mutilation by the unidentified flying objects, at last unusual UFO activity – were these reasons why Argentina's government had begun to listen to the rumors and started to be worried about their safety?

In this context, very interesting must be also the information revealed recently by the FBI, according to which Adolf Hitler did not die in Berlin in 1945, about what I was writting about earlier, but died as an old man on a farm in Argentina. Or maybe not in Argentina, but in that secret base in Antarctica?

What do we know about Adolf Hitler's death?

All, even mainstream media were informing recently about the FBI revealed documents. According to them, the leader od the Third Reich had died in Argentina long after the end of WWII.  

Much before that, many more or less confirmed rumors questioning the official versions of what we know about the death of Adolf Hitler. For many years it was commonly known that Adolf Hitler and Eva Brown commited suicide. This opinion was based on the relations of people who were together with them in the bunker under the Reich Chancellery. After they had heard a shot they had entered into Hitler's gabinet.

A Butler named Linge claimed, which was confirmed by Axmann and Gunsche, fuhrer's adjutant, that Hitler and Eva Braun were together sitting on a couch. The handgun was laying on the floor next to the men's feet. Hitler's right temple was bleeding. There were ampules with the poison on the table next to them. Eva Braun who was laying on the couch with the legs next to her body was supposed to bite on of them... Supposedly the smell of potassium cyanide was very strong in the room. It seemed quite obvious that Hitler had shot in his head and Eva, whose body didn't have any wound, had taken the poison. They wrapped the bodies in blankets, took out of the room and gave them to two SS officers who had taken them into the reserve bunker exit. The rest was supposed to happen in complete secrecy, that is why they took care that there was nobody in the corridors. The bodies had been put in the hole made by the bomb explosion, spilled with gasoline and burnt.

How can we be sure that this is how it happenned?

There were many doubts about the genuineness of witness' relations – on the May 2nd the battle in Berlin was over. Kempka, Linge and Axmann - the people who were the closest to Hitler when he commit suicide, were taken into Soviet custody. Of course Russians knew exactly how important people they were. Interrogations were surely done with a lot of attention.

We can be sure at the moment that Linge was lying. If Hitler had shot in his head, the blood spills would have been on the wall. But there was nothing, we can easily notice that on the photos taken by Russians. In 1993 the protocol from Hitler's postmortem examination was revealed. It includes the statement that a piece of glass between fuhrer's teeth and traces of potassium cyanide had been found in his vitals.

The second case: in the National Archive in Moscow there is a piece of Hitler's skull. In it's frontal part we can see a bullet-made hole. The skull is much destroyed and we can hardly examine if it is outlet or inlet one. If the second version is true, that it is an outlet hole, that means that gun's barrel, which was shooting was in the mount or under dead's chin. If it is a inlet hole, that without doubt means that the was somebody else shooting.

How could it happen?

Let's analyze another version. Let's suppose that Linge entered into Hitler's gabinet and saw, that fuhrer is on his knees and had foam in his mouth. He was holding a gun in his hands. Cyanide, he took before a moment, did not work. Asked by Hitler, Linge took the gun and shot him in his head. After that he put the body on the couch and left the room....

What makes such version possible?

Hitler was taking a lot of drugs. It should not surprise, if we consider a great tension in which he lived at the end of the war. If the cyanide did not work, he was not strong enough anymore to shoot himself and that's why Linge had finished him off. The people who were examining the bodies had noticed that the pieces of glass from the vial with poison between the teeth show, that it was crushed but not bitten. Of course we can suppose that Hitler had crushed the vial in his fingers and then put the poison in his mouth, but it is important to remember, that cyanide works immediately and Hitler did not have time to take his gun, put barrel into his mouth or next to his head and shoot. It is possible than, that Hitler did not commit suicide but he was killed.

Another case is what happened with Ewa Braun, because in the mid 90's there were the results of postmortem examination of the body of woman from the Reich Chancellery's garden. It came obvious that it was not Eva Braun but the person who died because she was hit by the fragments of the bomb.  It seems that soon after her death she was dressed in Eva's blue dress. Also the teeth of this person were changed, for it is commonly known, that the teeth are the first thing being checked during the identification of a body.

So maybe it was about to stop the chase after the real Eva Braun, who had left the bunker alive? Russians firstly did not inform about the fact, that they have found bodies of Hitler and his wife. On June 9th 1945, Marshall Georgy Zhukov, the leader of the army, from which there were troops who found the bunker under Reich Chancellery, had claimed: „We did not identify the body of Hitler. He could leave from Berlin at the last moment...”. Even on June 16th Stalin told president Truman, that he thinks, that Hitler is in Spain or Argentina in one piece. Though, he did not precise why he thinks so.

It is also important to say, that on September 1945, Russians released a statement in which they claimed that they did not find any track of bodies of Adolf Hitler and Eva Brown.

What did happend to them?

At April, 30th at dawn a small plane had started from Tiergarten and flied to Hamburg. In the cabin there were three men and a woman. It was also determined, that just before the city was taken by the British, a large submarine had left the port. There were allegedly few mysterious people, on its deck, among them there was one woman... It is not out of question,  that one of those men was Adolf Hitler and a woman was his wife – Eva Brown.

The X Files have been openned!

The media around the world have been informing about the documents revealed recently by FBI. According to these documents, the Third Reich fuhrer, Adolf Hitler had ended his life in Argentina long after the end of World War II. Federal Bureau of Investigation must have an enormous gesture when it comes about to unhide the sensational facts. Yet, a great amount of conspiracy theories have grown around these facts during these years. If they keep revealing such informations it would not last for long and all the investigators will have to do, is to seek for another hobby!

What could we learn from those FBI documents? Well, first of all the mystery of the crashed flying saucer in Roswell was revealed. It didn’t take long, and here comes another sensation - Hitler didn’t commit suicide but he lived much longer as a nice, old man somewhere in argentinian province. All tabloids had their breaking news but nobody wondered why there was only a part of the documents revealed? What is more, if FBI knew where Hitler is, why nobody had arrested him? Why he wasn’t a matter of interest for israeli services, like in this famous action of capturing Adolf Eichmann?

The most important is the fact, that the “revealing” of documents looks like throwing a piece of meat to a hungry pack of dogs hoping that it will pay their attention, at least for a while, from really important subjects. Maybe there is also another reason, maybe the time has come for the public opinion to get used to some carefully hidden facts and drastic changes, which will come very soon...
